why not?
i've just got some nice light wood fittings in my lounge and fancied replacing my 200 year old, black, Sanyo, 35 watt, wall mount speakers with something in light wood - now i have to say, i bought this sanyo midi system around 20 years ago when all the components (seperates) where actually built in Japan - with the exclusion of these speakers which are British built (i always suspected they are jpw) - the speakers have always had a creamy bass sound and very crisp at the top end - but it's the only set i've had for 20 years so i figure things must got a lot better by now spotted some eltax symphony 4.3, 90wt speakers in exact finish/colour i want - look very sexy compared to my old speakers - shiny chrome bi-wirable connectors (not that i buy into that), got solid wood finish (figure acoustics be great), very heavy, solid looking + bass port in the back - made my old speakers look very mickey mouse - only went in shop to look at a disk drive but i just gotta have these speakers so i bought em took em home, though i better check the sound before drilling any holes in them blew the spiders out from behind one of the sanyos, unclipped the old bell wires, clipped the end of the wires for a shiny copper connection and screwed it down tightly onto an eltax then cranked up my 2 x 65 amp to around 25% i nearly cried - it sounded crap - poor bass and not very crisp - seemed to be stuck in middle gear swapped the speakers round - maybe they weren't getting a fair crack at each other - but nope - in fact the eltax sounded even worse (by comparison to my old sanyo) - pulled the diffuser off the eltax (maybe it was muffling the sound) - bit better ok - i'll try some proper speaker wire - fitted some 72 strand (i think) wire - it was thicker anyhow - sounded a bit better ok - i'll bi-wire it - so i did - sounded a lot better but still poor next to my sanyo (which is still connected to bell wire, which hasn't been removed for around 12 years) gave the eltax every possible advantage i could, i wanted them so bad, but i've had to put my sanyos back up in my living room (they were laughing at me when i did it) and gonna use the eltax on my computer wassup? - how much would i need to spend to replace my age ollllll sanyo speakers with something nearly as good? |
