Default OK... So What about Cassette Field Recorders?

It seems like each format MD, Flash and DAT recorders have a drawback.
All I'm looking to do is decent quality live music recordings,
rehearsals, and capturing ideas. I'd love to be able to drag & drop
files into my computer (like one could possibly do with a flash based
unit), but I can transfer them too if need be. But at the less than
$400.00 end of things I've heard the mic pre's in most of these units
are pure caca......so with this in mind, are there a couple of standout
cassette recorders (possibly with built in mic's) that I should look at?

Sorry if I'm over analyzing this a tad
