Hi folks. I thought this was an Audio opinion group. LOTS of political threads. Anyway, I was
looking to buy some BIC speakers for my home theater. Eventually I want to get some quality speakers but I have to settle for cheapies until I save enough money. Anybody have an opinion on the BICs. I have read positive reviews on epinion.com for a few of their products. Mentioned was solid, heavy, and nothing exotic. Just a really good clean speaker for the money. Any and all replies are appreciated. -Chris |

om... From the lack of responses I'm assuming the BICS suck. Any recommendations for a good set of moderately priced speakers? BIC has a new line of home theater speakers - see this review: http://audaud.com/audaud/MAR04/component/comp1.html They must be *really* new, they're not even on the BIC website yet. If they are as good as the reviewer suggests we might have a winner. I'll call BIC and see when they plan a releasing those bad boys. THANKS! -Chris |

Saw these packaged as a total system, including subwoofer, at Costco. Price
was less than $700 for the whole system. |

Eventually I want to get some quality speakers but I have to settle for cheapies until I save enough money. Anybody have an opinion on the BICs. Consumer Reports has given some of the BICs (model V52? I think that's the model) positve reviews. Ask reference librarian at your local library to help you find reviews. You can also try consumerreports.org, but you may need a membership ($4/month?) to read all reviews. But most important of all, only buy speakers you have heard and liked. Speaker sound can vary a lot among different makes and models and reviews won't tell you whether you'll like the speakers. And to be even safer, make sure to get return privileges, in case you dislike the sound of the speakers in your home. Really the easiest way to get decent speakers is to work with a local retailer (usually a small, specialist dealer) who can help you find decent speakers that will meet your needs and budget. I have read positive reviews on epinion.com for a few of their products. Mentioned was solid, heavy, and nothing exotic. Just a really good clean speaker for the money. Any and all replies are appreciated. -Chris All of the above is excellent advice. I'll simply add that, if auditioning speakers in a dealer's showroom, be sure and bring plenty of LP's or CD's with which you are very familiar. Ideally, they should also contain musical material that can allow you to evaluate the speakers' ability to sound subjectively better than other speakers you've heard (or are about to hear) with different types of music - e.g. male & female voices, acoustic strings, percussion, brass, woodwinds, etc. If you favor rock and/or classical, try and bring along stuff from your collection that can "test" the speakers' ability to reproduce and articulate relatively large scale groups as well as solo instruments. And despite the narrow-minded attempts of a few subjective-opinion-hating zealots to claim that one should look elsewhere for audio opinions, the majority of the RAO readers are interested in music, audio gear, and every individual's right to express and exchange opinions about them without being accused of being bigots or snake oil advocates - lol.
