Hi,
Does anyone know of a program that can read MTC coming from the computer's sound board and "jam" sync the computer's time and day clock? It would be a small program running in background under Windows 98SE (tm) or a TSR type program, that would read the MIDI Time Code (MTC) from the computer's sound board and set the computer's time and day clock to the same time as on some SMPTE time code that gets converted into MIDI by a XRI systems XR300 SMPTE synchroniser, or other SMPTE to MIDI to MTC synchroniser. I need to have the computer's time clock follow the SMPTE time code. I think this is called "jamming" the computer's clock. I know this can be done with PCI cards that work as a SMPTE reader, but the ones I have seen are very expensive. It seems that a simple program could do the same thing for "free". If such a program does not exist, could someone help me write one? I know some programing, I can set the time and day clock easy enough, but have not yet figured out how to read the MTC under DOS. Any help of any kind would be most appreciated. Please send a personal e-mail about this to: tempnulbox (at) yahoo (dot) com So that I do not miss your reply. Please put "JAMSYNC MTC to CLOCK" in the subject line of your e-mail. Thank you in advance for your kind assistance. |

Might be abit of learning curve, but there's a MIDI extension to the Tcl language that seems to work relatively well. http://wiki.tcl.tk/9985 If you really mean DOS, it may not apply. If you mean a DOS box on a Windows machine, it'll work. Please send a personal e-mail about this to: tempnulbox (at) yahoo (dot) com So that I do not miss your reply. Sounds like a bad idea since diddling the computer's notion of time/date may screw up the operating system (file datestamps, etc. etc.) Sounds like a bad solution for some unstated problem. Perhaps it would be better to start at the begining and describe what you are trying to do? |

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, I am still looking for a program that can read MTC coming from the MIDI port and use its time (from SMPTE to MTC) to set the computer's time and day clock. In this way the computer's clock would read the same time +/- ms that the SMPTE time code (LTC) was at. Does anyone know of such a program that can run in background or foreground under Win98SE or DOS? Could someone write such a program for me? If so at what cost. The program would be small and have no user interface, or not much of one.
