![]() "Nothing is worse than sexuality," according to FCC Chairman Kevin Martin, "especially frank and open discussions of sexuality." The Chairman went on to lambaste broadcast and cable TV networks, singling out such risque programming as "South Park" and "NYPD Blue". Questioned as to the propriety of the FCC's role in influencing the content of TV shows, Chairman Martin cited several current shows as embodying "core values for mainstream Americans". Among the shows Mr. Martin praised were Fox's "24", which portrays the efforts of a fictional security agency to thwart terrorists, and Cartoon Network's "Teen Titans", which depicts teenaged superheroes battling against evil supervillains. A reporter asked Chairman Martin what steps his agency was taking to encourage networks to produce what he calls "family-friendly" programming. Mr. Martin cited his agency's recent fine of a CBS series that featured "depravity" and "licentious" sexual situations. (See http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11844455/ for details.) Mr. Martin concluded his remarks by praising the efforts of church leaders to protect America's youth. -- A day without Krooger is like a day without arsenic. |
