This is the outline of a website, http://www.coralseastudios.com , which has
the strong taint of fraud. The sole owner of this website is Brian L. McCarty. McCarty grew up in Illinois, served some time in the U.S. Army in Germany, and gravitated to LA to work in the movie biz as a sound mixer. His formative years are not well known, meaning we don't really know how he became ****ed up. The year is 1994. Brian L. McCarty has a fresh new idea for jazz radio on the web. Brian works on this in his spare time, while working under the tutelage of outstanding sound mixer Jeff Wexler. The two bond, and become friends. 1997 Brian sells the worldjazz project, which consists essentially of a collection of jazz recordings, to BET. With a reasonable wad of cash, he no longer feels the need to drop his boom into camera shots, or knock people on the head with his zeppelin. 1998. Brian leaves LA for Cairns, Australia. I've been tipped he was under pressure to leave, but cannot confirm it. I am open to any leads in this area. 1999 Brian establishes himself in Cairns, Australia, where Jeff Wexler also resides for a time. Jeff introduces him to Peter Young, ABN Amro's Australian vice-chairman, who in turn connects them with Stan Howard, brother of Australian PM John Howard, who becomes a member of the board. 2000 Coral Sea Sea Studios, http://www.coralseastudios.com, seems headed for a sunny future. 2001 Sensing mismanagement, ABN Amro pulls funding on the studio project, leaving it in solvent condition. But under McCarty's bad hand, Coral Seas augers in to collapse. Employees are owed $265,000 in wages, leaving some in tears. Once again, John Howard's brother is embarassed by the prospect of a bailout of the employees wages by the Australian National Government. It briefly becomes an election issue. Desperate to revive Coral Seas, Brian turns to scamming. He no longer owns the rights to the jazz recordings, but he figures, what the hell. Inspired by the allegations against Joseph Gutnick, he decides to sell what he does not own. The site http://www.worldjazz.com is adorned with false endorsements, false front men, everything but a set of falsies. Brian, do you have a set of falsies in your closet? Registered under a false name, few know that he even owns it, leaving him free to do the same with Coral Seas. Relying on the deep trust of Jeff Wexler, Jeff even allows him to place his name on the website as codirector. Jeff never checks to see thatthe endorsements aren't true. But Brian has a little SIDESHOW, and it spoils everything: For some reason, he wants to be the Audio God of an extremely minor domain, a backwater of the Internet called rec.audio.marketplace. He wages Brian's war against sellers. He labels a handful of bad guys, and hurts a lot of good ones. All this is accompanied by a barrage of anonymous phone calls smearing sellers, misquotes from the Orion Bluebook, or sheer fabrications of quoted values, calls to police and zoning authorities, anything to hurt people he has nevermet or done business with. November, 2003. Brian's personality deteriorates. He abandons posting in his own name, except for occasional denials that he posts on usenet. Now he uses an ever changing variety of sockpuppets, though one of them, "OFFICIAL RAM BLUEBOOK VALUATION", is consistently used to harass honest sellers on rec.audio.marketplace. Some people notice. They become curious about who Brian really is. To their amazement, Brian is himself a scammer, waging this war to feel that at least he's better than somebody. Brian is investigated by a three letter government agency, confirming, at least in one instance, the use of a fictitious identity for an illicit purpose. Internet law is unfortunately too primitive at the time to justify prosecution. The victims decide to retaliate. Brian lives in a Glass House, but continues to throw stones at rec.audio.marketplace, while those affected plot their response. Computer time is donated. "Bot" scripts running on a Sparc Sun Fire Supercluster monitor Brian's financial activity, registrations, public appearances, "society pages", etc. His web pages are automatically collected and archived. Late 2004: Jeff Wexler splits with Brian. He finally understands that his old friend is not the same person he knew. Now Brian is alone, terriblyalone. The moral of this story is: If you want to scam, don't make everyone in the World your enemy. Sooner or later, they'll bring you down. The "bot" scripts continue to run, 24 hours a day, on the Sparc Supercluster. If McCarty ever succeeed in taking someone's money under false pretenses, the Hammer of the Law will come down hard. Currently, McCarty makes a pest out of himself, posting to rec.audio.marketplace as "OFFICIAL RAM BLUEBOOK VALUATION" , where he accuses innocent sellers of various misdeeds. He appears to be a pathological liar, with unknown motivations. He currently manages the Baskin-Robbins ice cream franchise located at Shop G6, 59 The Esplanade Cairns QLD 4870 07 4051 4034 McCarty lives in the Coral Sands apartment complex at 65 Vasey Esplanade, Trinity beach, a bit north of metropolitan Cairns.
