![]() Anybody know of a box that holds some number of 1.5 V cells and provides power to a 1394/Firewire attached interface? Something with the powerless spigot in and the powered spigot out for attaching 1394 powered interfaces to notebooks lacking powered 1394. I'm interested in attaching two cascaded Presonus Inspire 1394 interfaces to my Gateway laptop. If anyone has experience with that interface can you tell me whether or not the sample clocks are exactly synchronized when they are cascaded? Is there a difference in latency between the two inputs or between pairs when cascading them and if so, is it deterministic? Seems to me that synchronization among cascaded units would be difficult lacking word clock out or in. Not sure how hard it would be to synthesize accurate audio rate clocks from the serial clock on 1394. Thanks, Bob -- "Things should be described as simply as possible, but no simpler." A. Einstein |

For this reason Tascam mandates the use of a six wire interface with their firewire decks. Although Cardbus does supply some power, I suggest you pick a pcmcia card, such as one of these, http://www.wiebetech.com/products/cardbus.php which have a 1.3mm jack for an external power adapter, or a similar card with this feature. |
