Let's say you are struck in your hotel room with a laptop full of finished
mixes and you have to deliver a master to the manufacturing plant the next morning for commercial release. All you have is a laptop (with all your favorite software) and a pair of headphones, and the CD player built-in to the room's alarm clock. No stores are open. Could you do it? What pair of headphones would you have? While I am acutely aware of the wonderful work some mastering engineers perform, I sometimes wonder if it really is their "golden ears" or the room and the gear they use (especially the room). So, if you had to produce the master, (say the fate of the free world depended upon it -- it has to be good), could you? -- Ratt Mahem www.themourningsickness.com |
