Listening to some music today, it occurred to me that some vocalists are
head and shoulders above others. Think about who you really like listening to when he or she sings. Think about raw talent. Think about musical discipline. Think about stage presence. Think about overall performance. Think about purity and beauty of vocal performance. Think about pitch, tempo, and all those other "technical" things, but very basic to coming across as a good vocalist. MY CHOICES (HEAD AND SHOULDERS ABOVE THE REST): BEST LIVING MALE VOCALIST: Andrea Bocelli BEST LIVING FEMALE VOCALIST: Celine Deion Feel free to feel differently. |

![]() Still alive though her best stuff was years ago: Annie Haslam She's one of those singers that people either love or hate. You will be hard pressed to find anyone with a greater range, 5 octaves, but I have noticed that her style really bothers some people. I saw Renaissance live on one of their last tours. I was front row center. Great show. I actually bumped into Annie Haslam hours before the show and was invited back stage after the show. Nice lady. |

That's something that I'm going to correct immediately, starting with Ashes Are Burning (anything with Andy Powell of Wishbone Ash can't be all bad!) to be followed by the Carnegie Hall set. Aaah memories. I recall seeing Wishbone Ash a year after Argus came out. Great concert. They did a 45 minute version of Phoenix to close the show that was just awesome . Climax Blues Band was the lead. Peter Haycock was pretty incredible on that slide. FM Live is a great party album. ScottW |

Nice choice of records. Her rather "bloodless" style works perfectly with the music of Renaissance though. Much like Sam Phillips' similar icy style works for her. I never thought of her as cold or bloodless. I thought the knock on her was the lack of grittyness. Some see her as simply to sugary and flighty. |
