I have recorded what is sort of a medley/amalgam of two songs. One is
Shapes of Things to Come and the other is "The Revolution" by Gil Scott Heron. The revolution part of it is more of a new rap using the basic framework of the the original. I was wondering if I distributed it what the copyright issues would be for the Gil Scott Heron portion since it is clear that is the inspiration but uses new words. Mike |

What you have isn't an arrangement, but is an adaptation. As such, you need to get the permission of BOTH publishers. Sadly, this is easier said than done but it may be possible. If they'll let you use it, they'll probably give you a break on mechanicals as well. But statutory royalties don't apply here. You need permission. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. Mike Well, having posted this here, you have committed yourself publicly - you can no longer claim originality, so you will need to pay royalties. Why not write something of your own instead? d -- Pearce Consulting http://www.pearce.uk.com |
