Default Amphony 1000 -- bad experience

I recently bough wireless 2.4ghz, supposedly digital, headphones model
Amphony 1000. Connected them to the VCR all right. The sound was only
good 3 feet away from the transmitter. Even at 17-20 feet away, clear
line of sight, the sound was horrible and filled with static. I do not
have a wireless LAN, only two 2.4 ghz wireless phones. Needless to
say, I never get much interference in the phones, so the Amphony unit
is junk.

Their excuses about "interference", that they list in the
troubleshooting guide, are bull****, as I do not have any more
interference as would any other average consumer. And my phones
operate just fine with, more or less, no interference at much greater
distances, through walls, etc.

Some cordless phones blast away with signals even when
you aren't on the phone. Apparently the amphony needs a clear
band. You might have problems with an 802.11 access point
nearby as well.

Interference in those open band segements is getting
to be big problem as everybody goes wireless.
My kid was playing with a little HO scale RC car
he got for 10 bucks at WalMart. Thing effectively jammed
my cordless mouse. Both are on 24 MHz.

I have not heard of 24 mhz phones before, thanks for letting me know
you have such phones.

I didn't say I had 24 Mhz phones.
I was just pointing out that wireless devices
in unregulated bands are a problem.
The 24Mhz band is occupied by toys
and wireless PC devices like mice, wireless keyboards
etc.

It is one thing to have interference in a toy
car where the electronic part cost $2. It is quite another thing to
have interference in a "digital error correcting 2.4mhz headphone
system".

Try unplugging your phones base station and see if your problem is solved.
900 Mhz phones are available though increasingly rare.

I have three 2.4 ghz base stations. It is a 5 bedroom house, hence
three bases. I unplugged the one in the basement (where I was testing
my headphones), and it helped a little, but not that much. Unplugging
all phones is not practical.

i

It may not be practical, but it could help determine the root cause of
the problem. I don't think Scott was suggesting that you unplug the
base as a permanent solution.
