Default Annoying noise on rec to PC from AMP/Mixer/source

Posting here is my last resort as I've exhausted my troubleshooting
knowledge/ideas.

I've got a setup as follows: Fisher Amp, Pioneer DJAmp, 2 sl1200
Technics TTables, a 2.1 Ghz Celeron D system with 1 gig Ram, built in
Realtek 98 Sound, Extigy external card and 1 soundblaster Live PCI card
installed. I'm using SoundForge 8 to take the input and the RCA cables
I'm using have an RCA to Mic-Jack used for connecting in as my
soundcards have no RCA ports.

I've tried running the source to the line-in on all sound cards from
both the mixer and the amp, and I continually get background noise on
the level monitor. I've turned off line monitoring on SF8, tried
muting unused audio features to no avail.

When I record i get an unnacceptable garbling of the audio on playback
through my PC system's speakers. These speakers are good enough to know
it sounds terrible. I have had it sounding normal occasionally when i
recorded through a Sony Tape deck on the amp set on record pause and
going out the headphone port on the front. The connection always turns
bad however.

I'd really appreciate some suggestions on how to resolve this, through
changing the setup of my existing hardwares. This SHOULD work, but it
doesn't and I'm stumped. TIA.
