Hi all,
I'm looking for some help with the placement of my satellite speaker system it is a Denon 6.1. First off I'm wondering at what height should the speakers be mounted in relation to the floor? Should they be at ear level when sitting in the normal position for watching TV, if not, above or below ear level by how much? Maybe half way between the floor and ceiling? Next the speakers came with a floor plan drawing that shows the placement of the speakers in a standard square room (which is what mine is). They show the three rear channels point directly toward the front not angled at all, the front left channel angled toward the right and the front right channel is angled toward the left? Does this sound about right? I really want to figure out the best placement for the speakers as I'm going to mount them directly to the wall and don't want to poke extra holes if I don't have to. Also I'm thinking of using the screw slot on the back of the speakers for mounting, sort of like hanging a picture, any thoughts on this. I'm trying to avoid stands because of the possibility of our dog knocking them over. Please let me know if I'm on the right track. Thanks! |

Those diagrams are for general information only, they won't show angles
because of this. As far as the height of your speaker, it all really depends on the receiver and the specs of the speakers. The goal of surround 6.1 is to wrap you in sound and provide rear center channels. The center is directly centered over or under your screen. If above you may have to provide a small amount of downward angle. The fronts should be as far apart as possible but equidistant front the center of the monitor and similarly equidistant front the left and right walls, 11 and 1 O'clock. This is not often possible in a living room so just do your best. The surrounds have become separated and added a center rear surround in 6.1. Think of it as having a front center channel and a rear center channel. The rear center, or surround back as most manuals describe them, should also be centered with your screen but at the rear of the room. The surround left and right should almost be placed at 4 and 8 o'clock in your room. The aren't quite in the rear of the room but not exactly on the sides either. As far as angles and height for mounting it should be done to get the drivers as close to your ear level while sitting and watching your screen. You can mount them up high but then would have to have them angled down and the levels of the speakers adjusted to offset the extra distance. This also might be the best looking solution....who really want speakers at ear level all around their room? A simple way to do this.....have your wife/partner/friend sit in the center of your rearest most viewing position....the couch? Mount your center channel and angle it down towards their head. I use a little laser eye level from Home Depot for $20. Do the same with the rear center. If you mount it high that's fine. Next mount the fronts. They should be pointing straight out from the walls. Next mount the surround left/right speakers. Angle them down towards your helper who is sitting in the same spot. What these angles should produce is a center point of the rear viewing position. You can then adjust the gains on each channel to ensure they are loud enough for you. Remember the surrounds, front/back/rear, are meant to be effects only....not too loud....watch a scene in a movie with them adjusted where you think they should be.....if they dominate the scene turn them down. They shouldn't really be noticed unless you turn the off. Hope that book I wrote helps..... I'm not sure what brackets you play to use but I used these and they are excellent....come with a mounting option should your speakers not have a pre threaded mount. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tegory=14 968 "Pat" wrote in message om... Hi thanks very much for the reply.
After posting this question I came across www.dolby.com. They have a bunch of info listed there about placement of speakers. My idea of wall mounting the fronts is out the window, this would cause the fronts to be about 2 feet behind the front center/TV. Apparently this is not good, so I guess I'll have to spring for some stands and hope the dog dosen't take them out! As far as the rear channels go they recommend mounting them on the side walls pointing at each other and slightly behind and 2-3 feet above the viewers head. I doubt if there is an exact way of mounting speakers, just trial and error I guess?! Regards "ReEfErMaDnEsS" wrote in message news:KwqXb.33431$yE5.114918@attbi_s54... And close the lid tightly. Then go buy yourself an Avantgarde surround sound system. Cheers, Margaret |

Why?
Denon is pretty good stuff, plus it doesn't cost $90,000 to put in your living room, WTF ? "Margaret von Busenhalter" wrote in message ... Denon? Try stuffing all of them in a large garbage can. And close the lid tightly. Then go buy yourself an Avantgarde surround sound system. Cheers, Margaret |

Hi yeah they say Denon is pretty good.
I can not understand what's with people using valueable time posting messages that undermine others? This time could be very well spent doing something good like helping others!? I don't know? Anyway just an FYI, I surfed over to that page to have quick look, and I nearly fell out of my seat! Have a look at that stuff! It has to be the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Who in there right mind would want a bunch of "Tuba" looking things mounted to their walls? Oh well what can you do? "ReEfErMaDnEsS" wrote in message news:8zBXb.181574$U%5.900367@attbi_s03... Why?
