Default CD / DVD player recommendations for home?

I need to replace my ancient CD player, and am looking for
recommendations. I want a changer (not jukebox), and am looking to
spend $200 - 300. I use random shuffle between all discs about 95% of
the time it's playing.

I'd like to get decent sound quality, quick and QUIET shuffling, and
something reliable. Cartridge or carousel doesn't matter.

Also, any thoughts about a DVD player instead of a CD player? I would
not be watching movies through this system, but wasn't sure if the
sound quality would be better with a DVD player.

Thanks in advance.
