Default lp to cd question

Hi,

Looking for advice on recording old lps to digital files then burning files
to cds.

Have recorded with a preamp (DAK2800-pc) going from turntable to pre amp to
sound card. The pre amp picked up an unbelievable amount of radio
interference. So tried using my stereo amp output to sound card. It works
but the high volume parts of the song are distorted (too loud).

Area there any sound cards out there that adjust the input volume? Or any
suggestions on making the pre amp not pick up radio interference?

Thanks in advance Rex

Darn few, but you might be using the wrong input to your sound card if
you have a choice. The Tape Output of most stereo receivers is a pretty
good match to a Line level input. You may be connecting it to a Mic
level input.

Probalby not much you can do other than move or replace it. If you
bought it recently, send it back and get your money back. It's no good.

What kind of preamp, what kind of cartridge, what kind of interference?

You were using the tape output of a consumer receiver, going into
the sound card, with the sound card set at -10?

Was the preamp input clipping, or was the input to the sound card
clipping? Put a pad etween the receiver and the soundcard and see.

A good preamp should be pretty immune to RF, but what was it?
