Mike Rivers Linux Troll
Ya know, these linux trolls in rec.audio.pro have been annoying, and
now we have one posing as Mike Rivers, linux recording studio advocate. Its because of these trolls I wouldn't go near linux, no matter what. Get a life. And know this- the rec.audio .pro regulars are really sick of you losers. |

With a dozen different names, but still just one guy. Its because of these trolls I wouldn't go near linux, no matter what. Actually, it appears that the troll is anti-linux and is trying to discredit the linux community. But that could be wrong. Get a life. And know this- the rec.audio .pro regulars are really sick of you losers. I'm not. You'll notice all the flatfish postings have been through google. I just set the killfile to drop anything with google at the end of the path. Voila! No more flatfish. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

Or just that most trolls come from free accounts? I move from PC to PC a lot so downloading everything is a huge pain so stuff like Google and webmail are the only reasonable way for me to communicate. |

I. Care wrote: But you know how to post the same thing 3 times. Oh! The embarassment! Talking about Google and right in this very thread Google screws up, something that it does to me about once a month. (do the search on me and see how many of my posts are repeated). Sometimes when posting it comes up with a "Server Error - try again in a few minutes" message. So I leave that one alone for a while (in this case, perhaps half an hour) and try it again, and got the same error. Checking back with the newsgroup, I confirmed that the message had indeed not been posted. Figuring that this was a real error and not just a delay, I tried again a while late and the post went throughr. But what really happened was that each time I sent the message, it apparently did everything but send it, and then did so much later. This is a case of a clueless error message, not a clueless user. Although after having had this happen maybe 3-4 times I should be getting a clue that when I get a "Server Error" message, I should ignore it and my post will eventually go through and get posted. I shouldn't be so paranoid. Neither should you. |

We build most our courses around the PlanetCCRMA environment because our students can take it home with them free. (I'm probably going to pay for saying that now...) So does dynebolic.org for that matter, ie:6 months between New News entries? We're hiring a someone in part to facilitate updating of PlanetCCRMA. I also see an awful lot of beta/alpha software and reading the buglist for some of these things is terrifying! Does most of this stuff actually work? Most of it does work. We have a lot of composition activity using the current versions. Of course, some of those composers used to work on a Foonly F4/Samson box system, too. -Jay -- x------- Jay Kadis ------- x---- Jay's Attic Studio ------x x Lecturer, Audio Engineer x Dexter Records x x CCRMA, Stanford University x http://www.offbeats.com/ x x---------- http://ccrma.stanford.edu/~jay/ ------------x |

I have used the F-8, which was actually kind of flaky because of the wire wrapping, and was not as reliable as the 8e. I know that at least one of the Decsystem-10 copies was made, and that it was used for rendering in Tron. But I don't know if any more were made and I know the one that gatech.edu looked at never got finished. Until recently I didn't think any of the -10 clones had ever been completed. But I had never head of the F-4. --scott The Foonly is not a /360 The Foonly is more like a -10 The Foonly is faster than lightning Oh, I'll get my Foonly, but when? -- "C'est un Nagra. I think I heard there were 2 made, but this was really before my time at CCRMA. The wirewraping was a nightmare, but we had a sysadmin who could find cut-throughs like Sherlock Holmes. I think we still have his log book with the little pieces of wire he replaced and the exact location from which each came. By the end, most of the I/O cabling was suspended with rubber bands to relieve strain but it still ran. When we retired the Samson box (it went to Musee de la Musique in Paris), the poor F4 was sent out to recycling except for the core memory and a few other parts we saved for our museum. -Jay -- x------- Jay Kadis ------- x---- Jay's Attic Studio ------x x Lecturer, Audio Engineer x Dexter Records x x CCRMA, Stanford University x http://www.offbeats.com/ x x---------- http://ccrma.stanford.edu/~jay/ ------------x |
