Try looking for patch cables rather than mic cables.
Google put this top of the list:
http://www.speakerrepair.com/Merchan...patch_c ables

Perhaps somewhere else offers even shorter ones. Or if you really
can't cope with the extra foot, cut one in half. At least that way
you'll only have to solder on one plug :-)

If your future life will include the need for more cables, sure, buy a
soldering iron and learn to use it. You'll save a lot of money and
get a better cable (if you're good at it:-). Without a clue as to
what country you live in it's hard to suggest a particular source.

How many are you thinkng of? Probably faster and cheaper to make your
own.
www.markertek.com has 1.5' Canare xlr/xlr cables for $13 each.

Most retailers don't stock anything shorter than 1.5 foot/.5 meter
lengths.

I just make my own with Canare Star Quad and Neutrik connectors.

Markertek ( http://www.markertek.com ) is a well known source
if you don't have anyone local to buy from.

BTW, do tell us why? And do you mean XLR connectors?

hi Nate,

I highly recommend Hot Wired Cables www.hotwiredcables.com They will make
any length you like for a reasonable price. The use Mogami cable and
Neutrik connectors. I've purchased many cables from them and they are always
great. They list 1' XLR patch cables at their EBay store
http://stores.ebay.com/HOTWIRED-CABLES for $12 to 13.

And Redco http://www.redco.com/ is another good place to get custom cables
or buy parts to make your own. They wired my patchbays for me and did a very
nice job. They have a cable builder tool on line so you can use
http://www.redco.com/shopexd.asp?id=653 While it still has several
limitations and annoyances it can be pretty helpful.

Best of luck!

And I had forgotten all about these guys . . . and they are within driving
distance of me!!! (doh!)

They look to have excellent selection and pricing on parts.

Here's another thought Nate. Buy 2' pre-made cables then cut them in half
and solder connectors on them. Save yourself half the soldering and some
cash.

Buying two 1' cables :
2 x $13.00 = $26.00

Buying one 2' cable and cut in half :
1 x $13.50 = $13.50
2 x $ 2.50 = $5.00
your labor = free (not really but . . . )
Total = $18.50

Because the Law of Cable lengths clearly states that all cables
shall be six inches shorter or the greater of (a) ten feet or (b) 50%
longer than you need them to be.

Connectors have no effect on this principle.
