Default A car audio question ?

Hello everyone !!!

Well I know some stuff on the audio lines, but there is some stuff I would
like to know as my last project was on the sony line. The last setup I did
included a sony X-810 XM-Cd-Radio, a pair of 10" 5 sided subs, a xplode 2200
(2X200RMS) AMP, a 1/2 cap, 2 6-9 rears ford stock, and a pair of 3 1/2"
alpines fronts. I did the install in a 1993 areostar mini van with a bed I
built for the back with the subs under the bed in a box the was ported. Max
output before nosie was around 110 inside the van no windows open. Had the
subs in a 1991 festive and the box just fit the trunk. Do not know what the
Dec was, but at 4:00 PM rush time on a 4 lane highway everyone was looking.
That was the first main project I took on.

I am going to be starting another project and this one will be centered
around the sound system as the last one was centered around the Mini-van so
the setup will be changed. Below is the following I am looking at and would
like some feedback before I start looking at things. Any input would be
helpful.

#1 Right now there is no car, truck, van, or any type of thing being looked
at as the sound setup will determine the what will be considered.

#2 Going with sony I have found out some things the hard way and would like
some feedback to try and not fall back into some small problems. First sony
dose make some good radios with expert reading of the CD's, but the lazer
the reads the CD for some reason will burn off 50% of the cd reading it over
other players. Will trash cd's in 1/3 the time. The back harness will last a
bit, but after a while a new one will be needed. The face plate is not as
dependable as others and dropping or anything else will cause it to not be
as useful as other in the long time use. What are some of the better ones to
consider over the sony like alpine and such that I should consider ?

#3 The subs work great and even the deep bas sounds nice at high sound
output, but this setup I am looking at more responce, tighter bass, with the
something that would yeild a better output over the sony 10" 5 side subs. I
know 12" would be better, but I am not sure so could someone suggest some
10" and 12" subs to consider ?

#4 The box on the last system was a bit different. After looking around I
found I could save a bit of money by picking a full range box up from
pep-boys. Hooked it to the amp and blew the heck out of it. Loved doing
that. Pulled the 2 10" subs out. Cut a bit for the 10" sony. Removed the
wires for the other speakers. There it was a perfect fit, ported, and worked
great. What should I consider doing to enhance this setup. Like a ported or
sealed box. Also would the sealed box yeild more lower bass like 40Hz or
80Hz ?

#5 90% of the music system will be used for will be for say EminmE, Ozzy,
Black Sabbath, and so forth. The system should respond very well with the
voice, and mid-low bass. Not supper low bass. Anything to consider for this
as the sony setup yeild a great match for the setup and the music ?

It is not the laser that is damaging the disc (these lasers produce no
heat). When this is occuring, generally it is the mechanism that handles
the disc (moves it in and out) that is doing the damage. This is a common
occurance, especially with older disc players. I would recommend Alpine, I
have owned three Alpines over the years and they seem to be VERY gentle with
my discs.

I have been THRILLED with my MTX MXS 12"s (they are the exact same as MTX's
7500 Series subs). Even in a ported enclosure, the bass is INCREDIBLY
TIGHT, AND LOUD!!! I had a pair of JL 12W3's (the older model) and these
MTX subs are truly superior. you can see a picture of them in my car at:

This depends on the box. Ported boxes can be desinged to yeld bass down to
40Hz. But after looking at the type of music you listen to, I doubt you
NEED a system to play much lower than 40 Hz. 40Hz is VERY LOW bass, and
most typical rock and roll DOES NOT have frequency information below this
point.

Thanks for the reply.

I have spent most of the day checking out and reading different info on
different setups. Oh ya I seen your photos about 1 hour after I posted this
and I must say it looks great only you should use back up a bit on the
photos as the lights tend to cast a glow effect that pulls away from the
image qualty.

I think I will be looking into alpine and MTX. The only problem I seem to
face maybe is a combo setup. Like alpine head unit and MTX speakers. It is
not a problem of setting it up, but more so of what I am looking to do. I
plan to stay with all one brand unless it comes to a qualty thing that makes
more it a bit hard to do with one brand.

Other then that I am looking at JL, Alpine, Kickers, MTX, and Diamond Audio.
Any others you think I should consider ?

Also the plan is to have on going 80 Hz with a once in a while 40 Hz kick
from the subs so not anything over the top is required.

Thanks again for the reply.
