Anyway, I remembered I also had a new little Rode SD omni here, so I'm putting the AT2021 and the Rode Omni clips BOTH up in the Audio folder in my Online Archive. The AT2021 is brighter and edgier than the rode and neither are as smooth as my Schoeps CMC641. The AT 2021 does remind me a bit of a KM184. The Rode Omni is a little smoother on top. Enjoy, Ty Ford Something about that Schoeps clip is just luscious. Almost hypnotic. Nice playing by the way. And your track on the latest RAP CD is fantastic. It's obvious even to a novice like me that you really know what you're doing with these mics. The Rode sounds nice too. Sadly, after hearing the Schoeps, I'm not extremely fond of the bright sound of the 2021. And I say sadly, because I just went out yesterday to buy it(with the AT2020 in the 2041 studio pack.) I figured for the extra $50(after returning my lone AT2020) I couldn't lose on the 2021 since upon first hearing you said it sounded similar to the Neumann mic. I figured I should have a mic dedicated to the acoustic since I'll be recording it regularly. I'm going to be recording a mellow song this weekend with vocal and acoustic guitar. I don't know if I should be worried about the brightness in this mic. I guess I just need to mellow it out with some eq cuts. I still feel like I made a good purchase. I doubt anyone would suggest a better acoustic guitar mic for less than 50 bucks. Maybe sending it through the tube of my Studio Projects VTB-1 mic pre will warm it up a bit. I also have an ART Tube pre I could try. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm pretty much flying blind here. Maybe some combination of the 2020 and 2021? I used the AT2020 on the guitar with my last song and it sounded okay but not great, too twangy. Maybe I should blame the Elixir Nanoweb strings I used. I just got some Martin SP phosphor bronze lights and Elixir Polyweb X light. I haven't restrung yet. Suggestions on which to use for a mellower sound? Thanks Jeff |
