Default Two great recordings I heard last evening

1. MTT/SFS Mahler 1, on their own label. Fantastic performance, and a
very good sounding CD. Delicate, and also rocks the rafters when
appropriate.

2. Fennell/Eastman Wind Ensemble Gould: West Point Symphony. Mercury
LP SR 90220. Fantastic performances from this ensemble/conductor (as
usual) on a glorious sounding 46 year old LP, still sealed, found on
Ebay for $5.00. I already had the mono release and this stereo release,
but on records that were well-played (and the CD, of course). Fabulous
sound.

Also available on SACD in multi-channel. Haven't heard either,
unfortunately.

Aren't Mercury bargains great? My best bargain is Balalaika Favorites
for a buck at Half-Price.

I'm interested in finding out how you've managed to play a still
sealed record...

chuckle

I hope the seal was in fact original, but I have my doubts, as I know from
friends who worked in dept. stores that returned LP's could be resealed in
new plastic wrap.

It was original. Having been in retail, it is quite easy to see when
something has been re-shrinkwrapped. This was in Mercury's distinctive
wrap, and the inner sleeve and the LP itself were absolutely pristine.
By the way, Mercury's price tag from when it came out was 1.98.

I can't tell you how many times I look in amazement at the retail stickers
on some of my LP's...back when they cost $1.99, $2.79, $3.59. Even triple
that for today, and the price of media has risen....although the bust-up of
the price-fixing CD cartel has brought some semblance of sense back to the
CD market.
