oups.com http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortu...73029/?cnn=yes iTunes ruling the music world.....with iPorn coming up fast. Now we know what Scotty is really looking for. Hmm, I ate lunch and dinner yesterday, serinaded by an iPod nestled into its iPod HiFi box. All things considered, it didn't sound that bad. Note that for those to whom it matters, the iPod itself is even more-or-less approved by Stereophile: http://www.stereophile.com/mediaservers/934/ Just because it is popular, doesn't mean that it has to sound bad. Of course since Scotty still worships at the altar of vinyl, its no surprise that this went sailing right over his pointy little head. |

Interesting that you would suddenly condone Stereophile as competent to determine what sounds bad or not. Of course since Scotty still worships at the altar of vinyl, its no surprise that this went sailing right over his pointy little head. Silly Arny... will you feel like vinyl lovers do when you can't even get your music on CD and have to accept lossy formats? Note: This isn't a vinyl vs CD vs MP3 question though I know your dying to make it so. ScottW |

Well lets hope that we will still have option of what will become the "retro" formats for a while yet. Just pray like our parents did that the headphones playing that rock and roll won't make the kids any more deaf than we were. At least some kids. Pray that they don't take music education completely out of the schools, and some may actually be gifted musicians. I'm sure some die hard old coot like me would keep some brick and mortar store going until they became museum pieces. Isn't that the nature of things we love? |

I don't care anything aobut LP's and every bit of new recordings will be or is available from the net with CD quality sound. The sooner analog dies the better, why would anyone want to listen to added distortion? |

I'm sure some die hard old coot like me would keep some brick and mortar store going until they became museum pieces. Isn't that the nature of things we love? LOL Indeed. I just don't want to be mourning the day when we could go to an actual store and browse actual product, look at music and audio mags while looking at the new (and old) CDs and records, chat with other collectors, etc. We're becoming more and more isolated and non-social in our activities, and I think that's kind of sad. I know that I'm "sounding like my parents" here, but sometimes changes aren't for the better. Then there's the issue of what format will digital downloads be in when that's all we can get.... Well if I know the marketplace, we will just pay a premium for the higher quality format, kids will be playing tunes on cell phones so how good does that version have to be. It is a shame that socializing is on the down swing. I don't know if it's part of we just don't know when to stop working or it's another symptom of the family structure fragmenting. Shopping was a social experience, you'd see co-workers, church family, distant relatives, etc. Now we shop cyberspace for the best price, shipping included. |

You wouldn't miss the browsing in the store experience? It seems every time I go to a store that sells recordedmusic, I'm confronted by a lot of people I would not usually want to be near. The clerks with the pierced tongues and tatoos being just one example. I just want the music, I don't need anything beyond that other than to play it back at home.\ I don't care anything aobut LP's and every bit of new recordings will be or is available from the net with CD quality sound. Why settle? ;-) Exactly. |

Why settle? ;-) Exactly. The chain stores folded their tent quite a while ago here. We have both style of "collector" stores. You can get a tattoo or piercing, and the music that generally goes with them. The other is jazz, classical, classic rock, new age, etc, and does a lot of internet buying and selling. At least there's a marketplace still. |

The stores I go to are generally different than that. And people who are different than me don't bother me, but I understand your point. I just think that someday we'll look back fondly at that day when there were record stores. But I know... times change and there's nothing we can do about it. That day is long past.... after I got out of college I lost interest in current music...the 80's...anyway after moving to Ca. I dropped by a record store near my new home. I looked around and had to ask, where are the albums?.... They were already reduced to one little rack on the back wall. I left in search of a hifi shop to get a cd player. I think I've been in a dozen record stores in 10 years and the only one worth visiting was up in Hollywood. Talk about freaky people... and security was tighter than your local airports. ScottW |

Date: Fri, Mar 24 2006 5:31 am Email: "Arny Krueger" Just because it is popular, doesn't mean that it has to sound bad. Of course since Scotty still worships at the altar of vinyl, its no surprise that this went sailing right over his pointy little head. So, 124, what do you think of this post? Just *filled* with science and technology. There's not one personal attack on preference, either. This is just a good example of a quality audio-related post from Arny, right? Can you now see what a piece of dung Arny is?;-) |
