After searching for something to fit my listening habits I decided on the Pioneer Elite PD-F27, a jukebox style 301 cd slot player. I found a bargain on a pair of Quad 11L demos with a piano finish. Put them together this morning with an inexpensive HK receiver (AVR-125). I've been sitting here all day listening to everything: Ramones, Coltrane, Kraftwerk, Copeland, Alison Krauss, Warren Zevon, Peter Tosh, Jethro Tull's Remastered "A Passion Play" was fantastic; basically cd after cd from my somewhat eclectic collection. The Quads are just beautiful, piano finish wasn't my first choice but after getting them I'm sold. The sound? It's just great for a small set of speakers- my audiophile vocab isn't very developed- but the Quads just make me want to play music on them all day. Next is possibly an NAD T761 receiver (separates can wait until a house purchase) and I'm already thinking of adding a pair of ACI Sapphires (for no logical reason). It's not high-end, but it's been a lot of fun researching new equipment putting it together and, most of all, listening to music all day. I really missed it. Just wanted to share the experience. http://www.quad-hifi.co.uk/lseries.htm You could double up on 11Ls and add the matching center sometime in the future if you wanted to go multichannel. It's good to know even inexpensive Quad speakers can have this effect! Enjoy! Stephen |
