And Britain maintains a "soccer terrorist" list denying citizens the right to travel abroad during these competitions. The same will apply this year in Portugal for Euro 2004. And unlike our friend Lionel who was spinning, the Brits aren't the only one in on the action. The Irish, Turks, Italians and a few Germans. Forget the World Cup or Super Bowl, it's common practice in Italy to bring neo-Nazi flags and regalia to Serie A games. And for "fans" to taunt black players, even if they're playing for the club that these alleged "fans" are supporting. And I meant to put quotation marks around the term "Superbowl". Ummm... he wanted to "knock 'em dead" with a song about AIDS? Was he talking in metaphors? Of course he shouldn't. It's not the right time or place for such a song. What statement of mine are you referring to exactly? |

Now *that's* action, if you ask me. heck, 50% of the people killed in your example were killed in this incident, which happened days before Christmas. Should we be invading MexicO now? I remember when someone was making the same point using a German guy who ate another human (literally ate him, mind you), all the time forgetting that we had had the same sort of thing happen several times over. How many different contries are involved in Super Bowl ? How can you write "The world Cup is, however" ? And unlike our friend Lionel who was spinning, the Brits aren't the only one in on the action. The Irish, Turks, Italians and a few Germans. I'm just answering to your troll and I push it along ! :-) I insist... You see I was right because Frenchs aren't involved in "soccer terrorist" behaviour. Forget the World Cup or Super Bowl, it's common practice in Italy to bring neo-Nazi flags and regalia to Serie A games. And for "fans" to taunt black players, even if they're playing for the club that these alleged "fans" are supporting. European watch too much American movies, serial film, news... on TV, internet... and so they are more and more stupid. I am sincerely interested in making a 100% embargo on American entertainment market because it never fits the minimum quality requierements and is often toxic and dangerous. |

Firstly Dave, you are dead wrong about my political biases. I am left of center on most issues. Secondly, the point I was making was that spectators killing each other is not common at NBA, NFL, MLB or even NHL games. And it is not uncommon in Europe. Yet, we get continuously chastised for being a violent, gun-toting, trigger-happy culture. I was just making a point. We don't have Packers fans waving neo-Nazi flags at Lambaugh Field. |

I am left of center on most issues. So why are you posting such tripe? What tripe? All I said was that Europeans can be just as vulgar and crude as we can. No sir, that's *not* what you said. They are certainly no benchmark of civility to which we have to hold up our own moral standards. You take a single instance of murder in a country that's barely considered European (it's just as much Asian as it is European) and you extrapolate that this makes them barbaric. And yet, you ignore the 10,000 plus instances of Americans murdering other Americans with guns. What are you insinuating? That the Asian subculture is responsible for their barbarism? Why has me highlighting a single, irrelevant incident of football hooliganism got you into such a bind? I agree. Perhaps I was exaggerating when I said that Europeans can be as violent as Americans. America needs gun reform. No doubt about it. That being said, I still like Europe. Yeah, right. If I didn't then I'd just dismiss it as a 'toilet' just like McKelvy and Pyjamarama do so eloquently. snort. I sure miss England - not the weather or the plumbing. But I miss the Premiership, the local and sipping brew with the lads. Wow, this really means that you are friendly with "foreign cultures". snort Probably a lot more than you are, mate. I am not a xenophobe, I am not a hatemonger. I am socially and politically very liberal. I've had the good fortune of living in Africa, Europe, Asia and North America. Oh and by the way, I'm not an American citizen so even I got fingerprinted when I came back last week. Maybe they should have shut the gates. After all, you probably look a lot like the fellows that destroyed the World Trade Center, right? Your point being? My point, which covers pretty much everything in the above post and your initial post is that you took a single instance of something that happened almost in Asia (and well outside the mainstream of European life) and made it sound like the whole culture was barbaric. Then you made an analogy to a sporting event in the US that wasn't valid. Then you used other examples to bolster your point and I showed you how similar things are happening here in the US. Your initial post seemed to me to be trying to stir up some hatred shrug. You tried to take the **** out of Europe, but you failed... |

This concerns Brits and socker... ...It's not European. the worst violence at football matches is on mainland Europe, they tend to use knives and guns, where as in Britain its fists and feet. at one of the matches where a British Clubs supporters got bad press for violence, it was a Spanish ! supporter who emptied a revolver into the crowd first, I think he only fired blanks, but the message and intent was clear. And it is not uncommon in Europe. Yet, we get continuously chastised for being a violent, gun-toting, trigger-happy culture. That is a most naive conclusion. There is a well established association between football/teams and political or thuggish factions in many countries where the game is played, however 99 times out of 100 it's a family day out, and violence tends to be centered on the people who seem to want to be involved in the receiving or giving end of violence. I would suggest the number of people killed by accident at football games (eg overcrowding) outweighs the number of intentional deaths by several factors. C'mon.. football teams in the UK can attract 50,000+ visitors per week, multiply that by N teams and Y countries, and how many murders you got? Drop in the ocean. Maybe we should draw an analogy with the predominantly USA orientated rap culture? How many people have been shot at rap gigs? OTOH the per thou' statistics regarding the murder rates in the USA speak for themselves. It's just a heck of a lot more than most other places. -- S i g n a l @ l i n e o n e . n e t don't forget that the Roman chariot racing teams each had a colour and a political party faction, the Romans had real nasty violence at their games, not just the show, but the audience, Visting Teams and supporters caused major hassles in the Towns they visted for the races. At the Coliseum the crowd was allowed certain privileges such as criticising Caesar, but too far and they Praetorian Guard were sent or threatened to be sent in to quell the crowd. regards malcolm |

No, butchers just play *in* the Superbowl. Oh wait, Ray Lewis got off. I'm sorry. And you have proof of Ray Lewis' guilt? I'm sorry, no. Have you forgotten Altamont already? European rock band hires thuggish cycle gang for security detail...yer point? At least they don't film stabbings over there, right? You think the soccer match wasn't televised? Bet it was. the stabbings happened outside the stadium, day before or after the match, the English supporters were drinking in the Pubs and Bars, and they were being attacked by roving bands of thugs. including Turkish Police. British soccer violence these days is mostly alcohol fuelled screaming and swearing, the British Police dont allow much more to happen. regards malcolm |
