OK, I'm a few year behind the times, but I was very happy with my equipment
until this afternoon when my 30 year old Sansui receiver stopped working. I know I need a new receiver, but what is the next set up, possibly for surround sound? Here is what I have. TV (cable) VCR DVD player CD changer Tape deck Two speakers in family room Two speakers in living room (still have a turntable stored away someplace too!) Where I live, I only get a couple of radio stations so that is not the most important factor of the receiver. All the other components are good quality, but not the extremely high end stuff. Technics, Sony, etc. I want to replace the receiver, of course, but if it has the capability to also run a surround sound systems, that is a plus. If I do buy that, will I still use my existing speakers? I don't want the K Mart Blue Light Special, but don't want the $5000 Supremo with gold plated knobs. Is $250 to $500 realistic? I watch a DVD maybe twice a month. Surround sound would be nice, but it is not what I live for. I'd rather get some input from people on a newsgroup than the commissioned salesperson at Speakers 'R' Us who will try to sell what he has, not what is bets for my needs. Brand names or just type of equipment and features to look for will be appreciated. Email works Ed http://pages.cthome.net/edhome |
