my fav book is 'mixing with your mind' by Michael Paul Stavrou.
i'm reading it at the moment. actually only a few chapters in, but it
describes exactly how to setup your room for the best and most accurate
sound. i'm only a newbie at audio recording, but it is really easy to
understand. i'm looking forward to implementing some of his ideas.

I fully agree, really excellent! Also another great listen is also by
Alexander McCall Smith called 'Espresso Tales', a 5 CD book from Time
Warner.
Also highly recommend Garrison Keillor's 'Lake Wobegon Days' on 2 CD's by
the BBC Radio Collection. Real 'theatre of the mind' stuff..

Balou. It's now available in paperback from Focal Press.

The Yamaha Sound Reinforcement Handbook is a tried and true
reference.

There are more exciting books, but this one has a TON of goodies in
it. 432 pages.

they're no substitute for the books others mentioned, they're good
reading while waiting for the books to arrive:

If you really want a learning exercise, go through each of these
and compare them to each other and the entries in the Wikipedia site
Arny gave. Check out which has the most info for each entry, and
especially when there's a discrepancy, look up other sources of info
to see what's correct and what's not.
