Does anyone know of a portable CD player that will return to the exact place
(instead of the beginning of the track) after you press the stop button?

I listen to a lot of books, etc., on CD and haven't been able to find any
portable players that will take up again right where I left off like an
in-dash player.

Most portables will return you to the beginning of the last track you
listened to, but then I have to manually scan to find the exact spot within
that track.

Any suggestions or help would be much appreciated!

My old Discman did. You had to select that function on one of those teeny
sliding toggles.

I think it was the Sony Discman D-101. I bought it in early 1991.

You couldn't walk and listen to it at the same time.

My Sony Discman D-E351 has this featu pauses on stop. It bugged the
hell outta me when I first got it (last Christmas); I'm still not
terribly keen on the option, but I'm a music listener: I can see the
advantage for your application.

You may be able to push a button and change this function. Look in your manual.
