Hi,
Inherited an Akai GX 266D reel to reel, but can seem to get it to work. I know it does, because I have seen it play. Any help would be greatly appreciated, or a manual, or anything ![]() Steve |

Any help would be greatly appreciated, or a manual, or anything ![]() Steve For Playback: 1. Make sure the connections are right - Line Out at the rear of the deck connects to a Tape In ( Monitor In) or similar connection at your amp / receiver. You could also use an Aux In or Video in for playback only, if that's what's available. 2. Make sure the tape is threaded correctly. For the Forward direction, the tape pack will be on the left side. Figuring out the tape path might be a challenge from here - I don't have a picture of the machine. The main part of the tape path, where the heads etc are is easy. The tape just drops in there, with only the center pinch roller below the tape. All the guides etc are above the tape. There may be a tension arm at the left and right sides. The tape should be threaded so that the arms are engaged with the tape, and their position should change as you tighten or slacken the tape on the supply and take-up spools. Tension the tape so that the arms are about mid-way in their range. 3. Make sure the Tape Monitor (Tape / Source) switch is in the Playback (Tape) position, and press the Play button. Assuming there is program material on the tape you should see the meters move. At this point you should hear sound if the deck is connected correctly and you have selected the correct source on your amp - receiver. Please confirm the above steps and post back. Once playback is confirmed, we can tackle the issue of recording. One step at a time! Mark Z. |
