Default Midi sync not received or transmitted by Digital Performer (cross-post)

I'm hoping someone can help diagnose this (hopefully) simple issue.

I am testing out Digital Performer and have been unable to get it to
receive or transmit MIDI sync (using MTC). I think I have settings
correct but am probably missing something. Please help.....

What Does Work:
Digital Performer is fine at transmitting and receiving MIDI note
information to and from the keyboard.

What Doesn't Work:
Start/Stop and Sync messages don't work in either direction.
When I start the sequencer on the SD1, the US-224 interface shows midi
activity when the clock begins and Digital Performer shows realtime
MIDI activity. Even with "Slave to External Clock" checked and
"Receive Sync from SD1" selected in DP, it still does not begin playing
with the keyboard's sequencer. In other words, it seems to hear the
command but does not listen to it.

Ideally I plan to sync the other direction (DP controls the keyboard)
but have had no luck in that direction either (even with my keyboard
set to external clock and to obey start/stop commands and DP set to
transmit sync to the SD1).

Setup:
Digital Performer 4.5 on Mac
with a Tascam US-224 controller/MIDI interface
and an Ensoniq SD1 connected to the Tascam controller via midi In/Outs.

The Audio Midi Setup shows the US-224 and I have added the Ensoniq SD1
as a second device, with virtual cables into the US-224, and the SD1
set to send and receive MTC (but not beat clocks, as it does not have
this capability, I believe). Channels shouldn't matter, methinks, but
it receives on 1-12 and trasmits on 1.

The Apple IAC driver in Audio Midi Setup is grayed out and inactive.
Could that be needed here?

Thanks for any suggestions. No fun having a new toy that doesn't
really work!

[I cross-posted in comp.music.midi and alt.music.midi, but they seem to
have fewer readers....]

You'd have better luck posting this on: www. unicornation.com

If you've never visited there, it's a site devoted to all things Motu,
including Digital Performer.

Good luck.

Correction: all things Motu *except* for Mosaic! Even the board where
you could bitch about how Motu had orphaned Mosaic was removed from the
Unicornation site!

Thanks. I just posted there and we'll see if there's a reply. There's
some other good information there.

If anyone reads this here and has an idea, please let me know!
