High Payments to Halliburton for Fuel in Iraq
By DON VAN NATTA Jr.

Published: December 10, 2003 (NYT)

The United States government is paying the Halliburton Company an average of
$2.64 a gallon to import gasoline and other fuel to Iraq from Kuwait, more than
twice what others are paying to truck in Kuwaiti fuel, government documents
show.

Halliburton, which has the exclusive United States contract to import fuel into
Iraq, subcontracts the work to a Kuwaiti firm, government officials said. But
Halliburton gets 26 cents a gallon for its overhead and fee, according to
documents from the Army Corps of Engineers.

Every citizen of this country should be *outraged* at this blatant
Bush/Cheney giveaway of our hard-earned tax dollars to the corporate greed
of their cronies like Halliburton. And amidst the $87 Billion they
strong-armed through Congress for their "reconstruction", how many tens of
billions are *wasted* in similar fashion - merely lining the pockets of the
top executives of Ken Lay and the boys? Absolutely sickening.

Had enough yet?

There was a Republican strategist on CNN tonight with the sense to comment
that the only people left who think they can get away with writing off
Howard Dean as "just another McGovern" are the "dumb Republicans". He said
the "smart Republicans" are "scared. Very scared. As well they should be".
Because we're going to take our country back from the corrupt corporate
cronyism of Bush/Cheney and the corporate money boys.
