Default Speaker Placement

I would like to get some thoughts on where to place speakers.

I have a family room that will be inhabited by a set of Acoustic
Research HC5 speakers. The satellites are small, about 5" x 3 1/2" x 3
3/8" with a 3" woofer and 1/2" tweeter.

The room is 16' by 18' with an 8' ceiling. One of the 16' wide walls is
a half wall separating the family room from the dinette. The wall
opposite the half wall will house the television, center channel
speaker, and subwoofer.

These speakers will be used to listen to music and to watch the
occasional movie.

Where should the satellite speakers go? Should they be near the ceiling
using wall mounting brackets they belong on speaker stands sitting on
the floor?

Thanks.

the best way is to suspend them from the ceiling with six inch length pieces
of string.
this website has the details of how to do it the proper audiophile way.

it is best to place the speakers where you can hear them.

I would start at about five feet off the back wall and about 3 feet off the
side wall with each speaker and experiment from there.
