Hi all,
is there any risk I will fry the mackie powered speakers plugging an electric bass into them and playing small gigs at half power? (mackies are the SRM350, I play fingerstyle, no slapping) thanks in advance |

I am a bass player. The Mackie speakers should be OK. Just listen for
distortion, especially on the lowest notes, and you should be all set. The potential drawback of full range speakers is that, ironically, they can have too much low end response. Mainstream bass guitar speakers have a cutoff frequency of anywhere from 60 to 100 Hz. If you run the bass into a PA speaker at high level, the cone may be pushed beyond the excursion limit. On good speakers, this does not cause damage, but does cause audible distortion. However, it's pretty easy to hear, and then you turn the volume down. Let me know how they sound. |
