Default Audio gourmet, anybody?

Encouraged by the lively coffee discussion I'm wondering if there are any
lovers of good food, gourmets if you will, around here? The late Fi magazine
attempted to bring good food, wine and music together but I guess the time
wasn't right for it and they went out of business. So let's try it he

1. Your favorite and least favorite dishes?
2. Your favorite cuisine?
2. Your favorite and most overrated chefs?
3. Your favorite and most overrated restaurants?
4. If you cook, your signature dish?
5. Your favorite dining music? (after all, this is an audio group)

Cheers,

Margaret

I wish I could help here. However, as much as I enjoy the taste of food, it
slows me down. I eat lighly and informally, ie., noshing at the kitchen
counter. This has allowed me to maintain my high school weight.

I can help, because I do eat, and sitting down, too. No go on the
weight, but I still have a car I drove in high school...

1. Garlic shrimp and oyster at the neighborhood cajun place; least would
be anything with out of season plastic tomatoes.

2. Italian

2. Celebrity chefs I watch on tv? Batali, Flay.

3. My new favorite: Andiamo; over-rated: Castle Hill.

4. My best work is unsigned.

5. Jazz on Quads.

Ouch! I love the Castle Hill Cafe! I haven't been there in 8 months or

Too many in the favorite column to list, but least is always meat loaf.

2. Your favorite cuisine?

Why do you presume to limit us like this? There's a time and a place for
almost all kinds of food, just as with music.

2. Your favorite and most overrated chefs?

Favorites: High-end chefs who offer a prix-fixe menu for under $40.
Worst: self-righteous donkeys who parade trolleys of slop at church
fundraisers.

3. Your favorite and most overrated restaurants?

LOt"S of favorites, but most overrated is Ruth's Chris. Never again!

4. If you cook, your signature dish?

Signature menu: stuffed artichokes (Carciofi alla Romana), grilled
cornish hens (secret recipe), various veggies, and Haagen Dasz. Anyway,
that's what I made a couple weeks ago. Next week, something different.

5. Your favorite dining music? (after all, this is an audio group)

Vivaldi. (Or Brahms, I guess.) What would Ferstler say? Hmm.....

Of course, but at least I find myself consistently returning to french

Sounds very tempting, George. I love artichokes and often steam cook them
and serve with mustard-aioli as a snack/appetizer.

No, the quality's as good as ever, the wines are still great, and you
could spend more for less quality elsewhere. My complaint is with the
cooking philosophy. I feel the individual dishes fight it out on the
plate, leading to an over-spiced total effect.

Completely agree. Artichokes are my most favorite veggie. When I steam
'em, I serve lemon butter. Your sauce sounds interesting. Can you email
it to me? The recipe, not the sauce itself. (Clarifying because all this
exposure to the "debating trade" can addle even the best of us.)

OK, it is obvious that we have philosophical differences! You just described
why I love that place. See, Stephen, that's why you order the bottle of
wine, to cleanse the palate between dishes and isolate the individual
flavors. That is also why I don't particularly care for the highly touted
Jeffrey's, it is plain boring despite the high quality of food. And
overpriced too.

1. Your favorite and least favorite dishes?

Favorite: Fresh-caught walleye shore lunch on the shore of a secluded
lake. Least: Anything with 'casserole' in the name.

2. Your favorite cuisine?

Italian

2. Your favorite and most overrated chefs?

No opinion

3. Your favorite and most overrated restaurants?

Favorite: Plaza III steakhouse in KC. Too many overrated to list.

4. If you cook, your signature dish?

Chicken and tetrazzini, spinach salad with raspberries, baked asparagus
with garlic butter served with a nice bottle of Amerone or Chianti

5. Your favorite dining music? (after all, this is an audio group)

I find that jazz in the background acts like an aphrodisiac on the
chicks I've gotten with my Jeep.

Sounds like Danny Gatton's "Redneck Jazz" will do the trick.

They did pour Caymus Conundrum for a wedding reception. Gotta like that.

That's what they used to say about Zoot. I get to that price range a
couple of times a year if I'm lucky, so I can imagine someone preferring
two trips to Castle Hill.

I think it's time for breakfast.

I have some current information for you. I am currently dining off a huge
pack of imitation crab meat purchased at Sam's Club. The stuff is actually
pretty good, but the atmosphere is zero.

When I go to NYC, I love the Korean restaraunts on 33rd Street. Down around
NYU, there's the Dojo soy burger, one of NY's cheapest famous lunches.
Village Ma is another one. A bowl of Tim Yung is a great warmer-upper.

Nobody else -- not Margaret, not duh-Mikey, not Andre. YOU raised the

Considering that I can't ever recall a post of yours other than
personal
abuse, I reckon my discussion of apples is as on-topic as you ever have
been

OK, I'll buy that. Now that we've established the standard, you should
remember this post of yours the next time you whine about others posting
off-topic. (But if you slip up and forget about it, I'm sure somebody
will remind you, Poop-Head.)

Maybe you should address your comment to Margaret who started the thread ?

Its not about the thread, its about your hypocritical whining.

It seems to be you who's whining actually !

I'm addressing it to *you* because *you* raised the issue earlier.
Nobody else -- not Margaret, not duh-Mikey, not Andre. YOU raised the
issue and it's YOU who needs accountability.

Or perhaps you'd rather drop it and wear your mantle of Usenet Hypocrite
with whatever passes for pride in the Hive.

Isn't hypocrite a bit of a big word for you to be using ?

Poor Poopie has run out of ammo already.

Poopie tries to slither out of responsibility for his own nastiness.

Poopie lowers the bar.

You're more than a little tendentious toward Hiviness, so it's hardly
surprising you would be confused at the sight of the word.

Can you admit your hypocricy of complaining
about George's off topic posts, while you were doing the same thing?
If so, we can end this now.

Yes - OK.

I was however simply *asking* to avoid OT posts.

Best idea IMHO is simply to prefix them OT in the subject line. No-one can
really complain too much then. I quite enjoy an *interesting* OT thread from
time to time.

Well, that's not going to happen, from either side of the aisle,
so you might as well find something more important to worry about.

Please explain what that means. How can one renounce to one's own
personality. And if one could, what would one renounce to one's own
personality?
