Default looking for quality small speaker

My living room is about to get new furniture and my current stand
mounted bookshelves will have to go somewhere else (another room).
There are built-in shelves at one end of the room where I could put
speakers but my current paradigm monitors are too big, the max height
is 10 3/4" and max depth is 9".

I am willing to get a sub to fill in lows if need be. That I can make
room for, it's just the small mains I'm having trouble finding. So far
after stopping at a couple local shops the only reasonable choices I
have found are Paradigm Atoms or NHT SB1s. I like the SB1s ok because
they're not rear ported (a drawback for placement very close to a back
wall).

I don't mind spending up to about $1500 to get something better if I
can find it. It just seems that the smallest offerings of most quality
speaker makers is just a bit too big. This is strictly for a 2 channel
music setup, the HT is in antoher room.

Any reccomendations for specific speakers to look around for?

I would look into one of the 2 way kits offered by Zalytron or Madisound.
Preferably with drivers supplied by Focal, SEAS or Scan-Speak.
