Default Getting sound from the computer to home stereo

I have a HP pavivillon PC with a built in sound device. I would like
to here the sound output from the computer on my home stereo. I know
that you can connect the stereo to the PC through the line out on the
sound card. But what do you do if the sound card requires powered
speakers? I tried to connect the stereo from this output but no sound
from the stereo. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

You run a cable from the "line out" jack on the sound card to an
input on the receiver or preamp. I think the jack you want has a
green collar, but you can find it in the PC's doc. If the sound card
has a digital out jack (for surround), you can connect it to a
digital in on the receiver.

For stereo, you probably need a mini plug for the sound card,
whereas home stereo equipment uses individual plugs for left and
right. You can get the necessary cables etc. at Rat Shack.

I must call attention to all, that George

all who have claimed that he never posts about
audio, you are incorrect.
This just warms the cockles of my heart.
Good show, George.

In general, this works.

I know that you can connect the stereo to the PC through the line out on

the
sound card. But what do you do if the sound card requires powered
speakers?

As others have pointed out, not a problem. You are going to hook the output
of the sound card to an input on your stereo that requires very little
power.

I tried to connect the stereo from this output but no sound from the

stereo.

First question would be, how does the output you used work with headphones
or powered speakers? It's not clear that you've got that working, so do that
first.

Second question would be, what input did you hook your PC up to on that
stereo system.

Third question is what kind of cable did you use?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What you're trying do should work. The hardest part should be finding an
appropriate cable that's long enough, only because considerable length might
be involved. The length itself isn't a problem because the output on your PC
is designed to drive long lines. However, coordinating a PC and a stereo
that are some distance apart can be a bit confusing until you're used to
working it.

Never is a very big word, but "hardly ever" seems to still apply.

This just warms the cockles of my heart.

Hey, he even got things right this time.

Good show, George.

Agreed.

Apparently I made the wrong choice.

Good show, George.

You're still sickening, Doof.

Yeah, he's got lots of 'friends' like me. How pathetic that he parrots
that same schtick with every reply to me. He really knows nothing about
me. I would love to meet him on the streets of Kensington MD and give him
a quick lesson...
