Default Sound Design?

Hello everyone,
It's been awhile since I have been to this group (about 1 year). I have
been out touring the world for the past 2 years and it was a wonderful
time to gain new experience. That being said, I have recently aquired a
new full time position with a world reknowned Live Theatre organization
as the resident Sound Engineer and Sound Designer. I have approx. 17
years experience in Live Sound operation and some recording experience
and training BUT I have never been a Sound Designer. It's my wish and
hope to do the best possible job for this Company. (They deserve my
full attention) I am not lost in the muck or worried about my
capabilties and etc but I AM seeking knowledge. I was wondering if
(those of you who are Sound Designers) could give me a little "heads
up" advice. Any advice is appreciated and you can contact me via my
listed email addy or leave a message on this usenet group. TIA for any
information that you provide and have a safe and productive holiday
season.
Sincerely,
Logan Kilburn
Sound Designer/Resident Sound Engineer
The Barter Theatre
Abingdon Virginia.

When you say sound design, do you mean creating sound effects/foley
to be triggered during live productions? If this is what you mean by
sound designer, you will need sound effect libraries, a place to record
and edit original material, and the hardware/software tools needed to
create and modify sounds. You may want to go to
www.filmsound.org
This is a good starting place for those interested in doing sound
design.
