Default Low Tech Question: Mic Stands

I have several mic stands - some cheap, some not. But I hate all of
them. They all suffer from sag unless you winch down the boom with the
strength of a gorilla. Then, when you need to fine adjust, you end up
getting another gorilla to loosen it, then call in the original
gorilla to tighten it back up. This wouldn't be too much of a problem,
but I'm the only gorilla around here and I'm sick of it.

I'm hoping this learned, experienced and highly professional group has
some input on mic stands. What I need is something collapsible and
durable and tightens/loosens easily and precisely. I'm sure some
mechanical engineer somewhere has worked out the best solution, but
between local music shops and the major online dealers, all I see is
the same old "crank that **** down tight" boom stands.

Any ideas?

Thx.
