the box is made of reichenbach RE11-FL transformers, i believe they are
1:1. it has a switch for each output to make 2 hot or 3 hot and i have
tried both.

my signal path is:
unbalanced bus feed (unbalanced cable) transformer isolation box
(balanced cable, 1=gnd, 2 hot, 3 cold) unbalanced input of gear


i am totally stumped as this stuff is beyond the periphery of my
understanding..

Umm - it isn't a microphone split transformer box is it? I have
a cheap Furman Isolation Box for killing noise that eats up the low end
some, but Reichenbach transformers are the good stuff and shouldn't be
doing that.
