Actually, the key of E is the people's key, at least according to the
Central Park Shieks.

Key of E only if you're a guitar player.

Key of C is supposed to be the key that soothes. Don't know if it's
true or not, but I was told by a guy who works on gambling machines
that video gaming, slots, etc.- the newer electronic machines - are
pitched in the key of C because of the effect on humans. Guess it
keeps anxiety down if you're losing!

All this time, I thought G was the "People's Key".
As in,
G, was that the government's hand in my pocket again!

When poeple who are not pianists sit down at a piano they play in the
key of C major, mostly. F# is just as soothing, for almost the same
reason, assuming you like the pentatonic. All other keys are more
troublesome.

I thought you were misquoting from a song. There really is a song
called "The People's Key" written by Bob Hipkins (the trumpet and Dobro
player) and recorded by the Central Park Sheiks on an LP in 1976. A
quick search turned up this link to a short Windows Media file of the
chorus:

Well, it's all about minimal talent and skill...
depends on the era:
When everybody played piano, it was C
Now that everybody plays guitar, it's E

But E is a lot harder for beginners, because the B7 chord is such a bitch. G
is the people's key around here; the only tricky thing there is to remember
not to play the low string on D, unless you thumb-hook it.

Peace,
Paul

Supposedly someone once asked Hank Williams why his songs were primarily
CFG, and he reportedly replied "Them's the people's chords."

Finally. 8 responses that have nothing to do with the topic and one that
finally does. With a "not yet".

Hell of a news group.

Hell of a news group.

Sometimes there really is no news to discuss.

My "not yet" answer is based on real information.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to get on your case Kurt. Just making the point
out of all the responses in the thread, only two words applied to the
subject.

Maybe if they had been the first two words.

Well, this is not completely off topic. What about the "pro" version
of the RNC? You know, with balanced ins and outs, dual mono or stereo,
etc....

Soothes the player, cos he doesn't have to worry about all them black notes.

The way to do this is to get 2 x RNC's, 8 x 1:1 balancing transformers and a
project box..

;o)
