I drive two JBL MP412's with a plain K1 Crown amp. I've got a Lexicon
MPX-81 for my guitar effects, but the Lex won't take an unbalance input (guitar) directly. I need some sort of mixer/preamp that I can plug in the guitar to feed the lex. But to complicate matters I also need to mix in my IPOD or a music source so I can play along. What is the ONE RACK MOUNT gizmo that I can plug in both my guitar and Ipod, run the guitar through the Lexicon and in turn feed my Crown amp? Guitar - Preamp? - [Lexicon - Ipod] - Crown - Speakers Also - need to plug in Bass speakers somewhere, and may need a crossover? I'm pretty sure this can be done, but the wiring and support equipment configuration is over my head. Any of you pros out there done this sort of thing before? Thanks! |

The DI inputs on Mackie's fairly new Onyx mixer line are outstanding. This isn't rack mount, but it'd do the job you need, and then some, and do it well. The Onyx EQ is also _very_ good. -- ha |

The Onyx EQ is also _very_ good. There's rumored to be a rack mount kit for the Onyx 1220, though this is hardly what someone looking for a rack mount unit would think of. I'll bet there's some sort of rack mount box that has an instrument input (probably a mic input, too) and stereo line level input (for the iPod), and has insert send/return jacks for the effect unit. I'd search out "rack mount mixers" and see what's available. Another possibility is a guitar processor. Some of them have effect send/return loops and may have line level inputs that can be mixed in with the guitar. I can't suggest a single product, however a real mixer with an instrument input as Hank suggests would probably be a good "looking to the future" choice. |
