Default Hobart Smith Recordings

Did anyone catch the NRP story the other morning about the recordings
from 1963 by Flemming Brown of traditional musician Hobart Smith?

He died in 1965 and the tapes lay dormant for many years, but have just
been released on a CD called "Sacred Trust". A very lively and
versatile musician who gives a glimpse of what live folk music must
have really sounded like in the last century.

Hell, I have Hobart Smith on LP right here, and have had for decades.

Right. But this is mostly material that was never released until now,
recorded in informal and relaxed circumstances, and it gives a different
perspective on his repertoire and style. Fleming Brown was the director of
the Old Town School of Folk Music at the time, and was particularly
interested in recording Smith in order to transcribe his instrumental work
into tablature, which then taught a generation of students at the school. I
have the recording; it's a valuable addition to Smith's other published
work.

Peace,
Paul
