Default looking for large slide-out keyboard tray

hello,

is there a place to get a slide-out tray to hold a 73 key midi
keyboard? i'm building my own desk, very flat and simple. the only
thing is i need my midi controller to slide under the desk.

the slider hardware is what i need. i could build the shelf in two
minutes if necessary.

i don't want an omnirax or argosy. i hate all rack gear and bulkiness.

thanks for any ideas

HeyYa,

If you're still looking for slider hardware, go to
www.rockler.com and
have a look at the range of cabinet hardware mfg'd by Accuride.

Here are a few search terms for the range from Accuride :
Series 2132 (3/4 externsion Drawer slide),
Series 3832 ( Full Extension Box-drawer slide) and
Series 3864 (Over-Travel Telescoping Shelf Slides).

Your local home-improvement mega-mart might have a FEW
similar items in their cabinet or storage dept., but the Rockler
website offers the full range of possibilities,
along with technical-drawings & installation-guidelines PDF-downloads.

The price range is from $15 to $30,
and there are some options regarding the Finish of the hardware

Primary consideration would be the Depth of the "shelf"
and the Extension (or travel-length) of the slide-out;
secondarily, the weight-capacity or load-rating
might be also be a consideration,
depending on your keyboard-playing style.

(presumably, you've already considered & rejected the idea
of installing simple 1"x2" pine Rails to support a plywood shelf?
sand-down all corners & edges to minimize snags in the slide-action...
an application of wax or polyurthane to the friction-bearing surfaces
to improve wear-durability... some scrap-pieces of 1"x2" pine
& wood-screws to assemble a simple drawer-stop
to prevent the shelf & MIDI-KB from "spilling-out"
& crashing down onto your toes...)

either way, have fun with your project...
