The Backup system tool fails on my XP machine. I've probably disabled
required services. Can anybody tell me what services this program
depends on, or better yet suggest alternative software that does a
better job?

Backup Status
Operation: Backup
Active backup destination: File
Media name: "Backup2.bkf created 05/10/2003 at 19:37"

Error returned while creating the volume shadow copy:Catastrophic
failure

Aborting Backup.

The operation did not successfully complete.

One of the most popular programs to do backup is: STOMP Inc.'s Backup MyPC.
I've seen it as low as $45 at discounters. The web site is:
http://www.stompinc.com/index.phtml?stp

OK lamer,

From Component Services, find and start
MS Software Shadow Copy Provider
which is dependent on Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
so find and start that too.

Finally, change you sig, cause you ain't worthy of it. :-)

Yes, well, the lesser of two evils is still ... that.

At least he can't possibly muck things up worse than his predecessor.

You will be able to mock your compatriots from Tennessee !

Hey, don't knock Tennesseans! They had the good sense to keep their
homeboy Al Gore from winning the Presidency last time 'round! :-)

And since you're turning RPC on, make sure your firewall
is robust (and I mean a real firewall, not that rinky-dink
piece of junk bundled with XP), and also that your anti-
virus definitions are current, as RPC is a wormer's delight.

Finally, change you sig, cause you ain't worthy of it. :-)

In this particularly case perhaps it would be better that they turn it
off ! (LOL!)
