I need the help of you folks who own or have owed this great little
British amp. I purchased a Quad 405 (not 405-2) on Ebay. There are some inconsistencies with this unit that have me confused. Unit Serial # 37277 Board #'s M12368 ISS9 These don't seem consistent from the infromation I've read. Is this a later version of the original 405 - but with somewhat older model replacement boards or what?? In addition, the rear panel does not have the typical circular voltage selector dial. In the general location of where the dial would be is a single screw head. On the inside that screw holds in place what is clearly a factory installed second set of power line fuses (they look like 6 amp fuses) in addition to the standard single 5 amp rear panel mounter fuse. So in total, there are 7 fuses for this unit. 2 - 4 amp fuses on each board, the 2 - 6 amp fuses mounted to the inside of the back panel and then the single inline 5 amp fuses on the back panel that is externally replaceable. Finally, on the left side of the rear panel is what I am guessing is some warning language - but in FRENCH!! However, on the right side the panel is warning language about removing the power cord - before servicing the amp. This is in English! So, for you folks familar with the Quad 405, is this a US imported amp OR an amp imported to say the French speaking area of Canada? Second, why are there 2 additional power supply fuses mounted on the inside of the back panel? I have not seen this arrangement in photos of the interior of the amp before. I would appreciate any feedback! Pete |
