Default 00 Ford Expedition and Avic D1 - I'm an idiot!

First, I wanted to come to some of the most knowledgable car audio people on the net. I know someone in here can help me... =-)

I have a 2000 Ford Expedition and the installers around here don't seem to be able to give me a straight answer on putting an Avic D1 in there.

The opening doesn't seem to be a full double DIN. More like 1 1/2 or 1 3/4. It still has the stock stereo in it with the 6 disc changer and rear audio, but I have a D1 ordered.

My questions are, will it fit my opening without cutting? Has anyone done this install before? I'm pretty sure I can still use the stock 6-disc changer, but can I use the rear audio controls for anything with the D1?

Also, none of the installers in my area will do the D1 bypass (we travel and my wife would like to be able to watch a movie when she wants to - not the driver). I think I understand the wire thing, but I really have no idea what different forums are saying when they say to "make sure to ground the parking brake". Can anyone shed some light for a helpless moron when it comes to car stereos.
I can hook up a crazy home theatre, but never touched my car. I'm sad.

PLEASE FEEL PITY FOR ME AND HELP! =-)

If it's not worth posting, please feel free to let me know via email ) Thank you in advance!

The Avic D1 is a double din size, your Ford is a din and a half.

The D1 WILL NOT FIT without sutting your dash......which I STRONGLY DO NOT
recommend.

You might want to look at the AVIC N2

In fact the Ford radio opening is a double-din, but in a 2000 Expedition
there is metal structure behind the factory radio that will prevent an
aftermarket double-din from fitting without some modification.

A more serious problem with your plan is that the AVIC-D1 does not include a
DVD movie player. The DVD transport built into the unit will only play the
navigation DVD. It WILL NOT play movies.

The Avic-N2 will play movies and can be installed more easily into your
dash. I think you'd be very foolish to allow the screen to show movies
while you're driving, even if you don't plan to watch. If you get into an
accident while the movie is playing, it will be hard for you to claim you
weren't distracted. You should consider getting a visor-mount monitor for
your wife's use, or see if one can be installed into your glove box.
