Agreed, except phono cart to preamp s/b short as possible.

Depends on the context and how long is "long".

Either can work well, depending on the constraints.

The context is Choking A 'Borg.

I would assume an interconnect would be more resistant to Gnawing Nanites, but
some of that fancy, overstuffed speaker cable probably has the same benefit.

Silly person, only if they're balanced.

Since I am pondering moving my power amps I asked the same question on
Audio Asylum's Cable asylum several weeks ago. One difference in my post
- I specified 30 foot interconnect versus 3 foot IC / 35 foot speaker
wires versus 10 foot SW. Surprisingly nobody would commit to endorse the
conventional wisdom that favors long interconnects/short speaker wires
except to caution that for the long interconnect balanced line would be
preferred and that low IC capacitance is also important. Nobody related
a personal experience, just talked tech considerations. I suppose I
will invest in some long balanced interconnects, cut some short speaker
wires, and find out for myself. Luckily I have hundreds of feet of my
preferred low priced 12 gauge speaker wire on hand and I have been given
some good advice on reasonably priced balanced interconnect to buy.

In this kind of debate one pretends that the best would be
to have speakers' crossover very near the amp.
