The Watts of a subwoofer on the spec means what? The amp's or the driver's
output? How useful is this number?

Either one or neither. Depends on how it is described.

How useful is this number?

Depends on the meaning of the number. See above.

Whatever the maker wants it to mean. There is no generally-agreed-upon
standard.

The amp's or the driver's output?

That would be recommended amp power rating or maximum input to the woofer,
right?

It could be either.

How useful is this number?

Not very.

"Useful loudspeaker specification" would be an oxymoron, right? OK, the
dimensions and finish are usually right.
