Default Converting AIIFs or WAVs to MP3s?

This may be one of those very basic questions, but I'm baffled.
I have SoundStudio and iTunes.
If I take, say, 2 songs and have them fade in or out over each other at
their ends/beginnings, I can only do that in SoundStudio, as iTunes
doesn't offer any mixing, per se. However, in SS, I can only export my
mix as an AIFF or WAV file. These files cannot be converted, then, to
MP3s.

Am I missing something here?!

Thanks,
aiiiiee
