I found a console phono/tuner for sale at a thrift store today that has
three el84 tubes in the amplifier. Anyone familiar with this thing?

Well, it's not a VCR. :-) But you knew that. :-) Seriously,
I found some diagrams for "VCR 13 and 14". Those use 6BQ5s
and 6CG7s. The tuners in these look to be little more
than modified tube table radios.
