Noise reduction in Los Angeles?
While compiling some selections for the next volume of a non-profit CD
of irish flute music, I'm receiving some that were transfers from cassette. Unfortunately the original source is probably not available to me, and what I have are CD-Rs with some hiss, and some with additional regular buzzing noises. Each recording is about 3:30 in length. Is there anyone in the Los Angeles area who could determine if they can be made more listenable? On a previous volume, good results were obtained on somewhat better material using CEDAR, but the same engineer (outside L.A.) is probably not available for these. He knows a lot of the forensic guys who do this kind of thing in the LA area. 800-798-9127. The basic story is that buzz can be removed. Hiss can be removed. But flutter can't be removed, and stuff that has already been removed (like the top end) can't be put back. Are you _sure_ you can't get the originals? --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. He uses the latest Algorithmix stuff with Sequoia and should be able to give you an idea of whether that can help. |

Thanks, Scott, for the lead. One track was transferred back in 1997
and cleaned up for a CD release then. I'm hoping some improvement might be possible (just hiss). The second track is a bad transfer, but I don't know when it was done. If possible, I will try to get to the source, as properly done it might be a considerable improvement. I'll second this recommendation- Jeff is a genius when it comes to
restoration work. His work on the recent Disney historical releases has been nothing short of amazing (the Disneyland 50th, 6 CD set and the Mary Poppins soundtrack). --Ben -- Benjamin Maas Fifth Circle Audio Los Angeles, CA http://www.fifthcircle.com Please remove "Nospam" from address for replies "Kurt Albershardt" wrote in message ... Thanks, still working on getting closer to the source tape. It's in
Ireland, and I'm afraid of trusting to international delivery. So, I may try to get a local transfer there that can be cleaned up here.
