I have a pair of Westlake BBSM-8's the 3.5" mid driver has a small tear
in the cone that I had repaired with a little rubber glue. Westlake no longer sells the mids for this model and everyone I have spoken to about reconing said they can't help with this particular speaker. Does anyone know of a replacement solution for this situation. Westlake is no help at all. Thanks Dave |

If not, don't worry about it. --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |

They had them fabricated and delivered within a month or so. Maybe the BBSM-8s are different, but Westlake was able to handle the BBSM-10s. They were actually quite helpful. -Jay -- x------- Jay Kadis ------- x---- Jay's Attic Studio ------x x Lecturer, Audio Engineer x Dexter Records x x CCRMA, Stanford University x http://www.offbeats.com/ x x---------- http://ccrma.stanford.edu/~jay/ ------------x |

I used the rubber glue so it would retain flexability but it seems logical that it would affect the sound somehow. Dave |

If it causes a problem, it would be because it is more or less flexible than the rest of the surround material, and so the cone does not move evenly in and out at some frequencies. If you play a sweep tone and look at the cone and the breakup modes don't look any different than the other driver, then don't worry about it. The problem is that since you can't get the original parts, anything you do to replace the surround is going to change the compliance and therefore change the resonant frequency of the driver. This is probably going to be more detrimental than what you've already done. Will Westlake at least tell you the manufacturer and part number of the driver? Or is it marked at all? --scott -- "C'est un Nagra. C'est suisse, et tres, tres precis." |
